Guy Bourdin (1928-1991) is a French fashion and advertising photographer. This autodidact was born and lived in Paris where he practiced his art from the 1950s to the late 1980s.
The exhibition highlights the artist's fascination with highly detailed graphic compositions, concepts, framing and particular narrative style. The characters nevertheless occupy a secondary place in his works: the natural or urban environment frames the subject, and the body blends into its immediate surroundings. If it is an integral part of the image, the character is never the central point; it is this subtlety of composition and form that makes Bourdin's work so fascinating. From still life to portraiture, landscape and abstraction, Guy Bourdin approaches his subjects from an innovative and experimental angle.
